Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG MACRO

This lens is Sigma's offering to compete with the highly rated Canon 24-70mm L lens. Optically, both lens perform very similar, which some opinions stating that the Sigma can sometimes be optically superior to the Canon lens, at a fraction of the cost.

The lens is usable at f/2.8 (albeit soft) but performance at f/4 and smaller is extremely impressive.

I did have some issues with the first copy I received (the lens was front-focussing) but the replacement I received has performed perfectly so far.

The only possible improvement that I could hope for would be an updated focus system. The Sigma will focus lock as quickly as the Canon L lens, but without HSM focus it is quite a noisy process.
