37 Car Mayhem

My Helmet Design Laguna Seca

Well, the 24 Heures du Fun just rolled around for this weeks action (3 class racing at Laguna Seca) and I started the evening by deciding which car to choose. Tried the Skippy and the Solstice and decided to be non-conformist and return to the Solstice (I love the car).

Big Mistake.

Starting 8th in a 37 car grid with the slowest car out there (bar two other crazy racers) was not the best idea, and I lost count of the cars passing me on lap one…. on the left, on the right, even through the center at times! ;)

It felt like I was passed by 100 unique cars, but still lots of fun – until one of the many wrecks caught me out and finished my race.

Still, I had to capture some footage – it’s not like this is an occurance that is likely to be repeated anytime soon.

This weeks 24 Heures du Fun

My Helmet Design Laguna Seca

This weeks 24 Heures du Fun looks like it’s going to be excellent – 46 car fields at Laguna Seca, and mixed class racing! The Legends, Skip Barber RT2000 and Solstice are going to be on the track all at the same time for an unknown number of laps.

I’m definitely going to try and get into the first race session seeing as that might be the easiest one to get a large grid. I can’t imagine how crowded the track will be with (potentially) 46 cars on it. I hope to see a good split of drivers choosing all three cars.

I would initially choose the Skip Barber but maybe not, as most people will probably do so. Instead I might go back to the Solstice but I fear that it’ll not have many other cars to race.

Decisions, decisions……

Week 5 – The Excellent Lowe’s Road Course

My Helmet Design

This week the Skip Barber series is at the excellent Lowe’s road course, last driven (by me) at the 13th week Solstice challenge. It’s an excellent course that allows heavy drafting all the way around the oval section. It can be frustrating too – pulling out a second over a rival in the infield is usually nullified by the slipstream effect on the back stretch.

I managed to get three races in, and generally enjoyed all of them. I think I discovered a new bogey corner – turn 5 – I really struggled with it as the car arrives with the suspension and weight so loaded that there is really no room for any error or microcorrection that you might need to use.

I finished the week generally improving my points tally in each of the three races. 112 points average for this week.

Here are some highlights from the races.

Due to lack of free time I couldn’t run any other series this week so missed out on the late model at Irwindale :(
