Leaving a mark at Talladega…

I don't think this is going to end well... (I'm far left)

The next two events in the World Tour were the double events at Talladega, to coincide with the real world races in the Nationwide and Sprint Cup series respectively.

I went into both races with the same approach – just stay at the back of whatever pack I was in, try to keep single file as much as possible and when double file leave ample space to account for any sudden moves by anyone.

It worked ‘reasonably’ well – certainly better than the Daytona 500 event, but still managed to pick up a huge number of incidents, and in both races I was wrecked out with less than 25 laps to go! Talladega 312 results (iRacing members only!)

Oval Road Odyssey – Zandvoort GP (iRacing members only!)

The penultimate venue in season two of the Oval Road Odyssey league (‘ORO’) took us to the newest track in iRacing’s library, Zandvoort. I had never driven the circuit before (in any sim), and my only experience with the track was when I did the last batch of ‘Real Or Virtual?’ comparison images (available here).

The race was a cracker – another exciting race in the late models, and one to remember! I had a very good starting position with second on the grid but soon lost that advantage as I tumbled down the order to 13th place due to yet another turn one incident (having a bad run of luck in that regard lately).

The scene was set for a spirited fight back, and over the 16 laps I was able to salvage a decent result (not as good as I’d hoped, but OK nonetheless).

As usual, the highlight reel follows!

22 months and some numbers

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

I’ll shortly be coming up to my second year anniversary in iRacing and here are some random figures that I’ve accumulated in that time.

  1. I’ve raced in 233 events, taking wins in just 9% of the races (22).
  2. I’ve squared off against 1,600 fellow competitors (including some notable real world racers) and managed to accumulate more points than 72% of the racers I’ve faced (1,154 drivers).
  3. I’ve notched up 451 incidents in official races since I joined in June 2008 with the worst showing being the 19 incidents I picked up in three hours of battling in the iRacing Daytona 500 World Tour event. This represents an average of 1.93 per race (across both road and oval disciplines).
  4. My incident safety record is in better shape than 79% of the drivers I’ve faced.
